Description |
Modern marbled boards, a.e.g. Title and last leaf a little dusty, and title-leaf with crease mark at lower corner. Engraved. Text by David Mallet, prologue by Garrick (not present here). First performed on 9th May, 1755. The singers, who are named in the score, included Isabella Young (at the outset of her career, aged about 14), and John Beard (the great tenor, who sang more roles under Handel than any other singer and created parts in six of his operas and many of his oratorios); "Adieu for a while" is marked "Sung by Mr. Wilder" although the London Stage does not mention his name in the cast-list. |
