Description |
Stitched. Some foxing. According to Loewenberg Francesco Federici's opera Zaira was first performed in Milan on 3 September 1803 but he also notes a remark in Sorge's Teatri di Palermo which refers to a performance in 1799, as well as under another title in 1802. With printed verses to Rosalinda Grossi-Silva (1787-1804), Giuseppe Carri, Maria Buratti Eckerlin (175?-182?) and Giovanni Casali. Cagnoli was influenced by the revolution of 1796-1797, with the proclamation of the republic Cispadana, which induced him to leave the church and to participate in the tumultuous political events of those years; between 1797-1802 he taught moral philosophy in the high school of the city, and from 1803 was censored by the press. |
