Comprising: i) How gentle was my Damon's air, sung by Mrs Arne; ii) Would you taste ye noon tide air, sung by Mrs Arne; iii) The wanton God, sung by Mrs Clive; iv) Now Phoebus sinketh in the West, sung by Mr Beard; v) Fly, swiftly ye Minutes, sung by Mr Beard; vi) By the gayly circling glass, sung by Mr Beard; vii) Preach not me your musty rules, sung by Mrs Clive. From the masque (prologue, three acts and epilogue), text altered from Milton by John Dalton, first performed on 4 March 1738 at Drury Lane with a cast which included the Cibbers, Kitty Clive, Cecilia Arne (the composer's wife) and John Beard. |
