| Description |
Left edge a little worn. Stipple engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi after the drawing by Giovanni Battista Cipriani. The composer's birth year has been incorrectly ascribed. Medallion head and shoulder portrait of Handel within a laurel wreath frame, held by an angel and putto, with another putto in the background next to organ pipes and a violin visible at the foot of the portrait, all atop a cloud, with the lettering below; the whole enclosed in a laurel leaf framework incorporating griffins at the lower corners and musical trophies in the lower centre. Used as a frontispiece to Clementi & Co's edition of Handel's Songs. |
