Description |
Contemporary quarter calf with marbled boards (front board detached, backstrip partly missing, scratched and worn). Engraved by John Johnson (fl.1772-d.1811). Many of the pieces have an ornate headpiece or depiction of an instrument. Title taken from vol.I (not present). Title-page to this volume reads: "Volume 2d. / Consisting OF English / SONGS & DUETTS / Tomo Secondo / ARIE E DUETTI / Inglesi / Butterworth Script. / J. Johnson Sculpt.". Includes four items by Handel: My dolly was the fairest thing [from Love in a Village]; The flocks shall leave the mountains, from Acis and Galatea; Pious orgies, from Judas Macchabeaus; Return, return o God of hosts, from Samson. Other music by Boyce, Giardini, Geminiani, Shield, Galuppi, Arne, Dibdin, Arnold, Monsigny, William Jackson, Henry Purcell and Thomas Linley. |
