| Description |
Modern quarter polished calf with original marbled boards and leather corners (bumped). Small worm-hole to very lower outer corners of first three folios. Engraved. To a text by Eduard Gehe (1793-1850); first performed on 28 July, 1823 at Kassel, it retained a firm place in the German repertory until the Nazis proscribed it as racially unsound. It has "the most satisfactory libretto of all Spohr’s operas" and displays his musical gifts at their best. |
