| Description |
As issued. Engraving after a portrait by William Hogarth (1697-1764). John Hinton was at this address between 1752-1775; according to William C. Smith this image is taken from the frontispiece by Thomas Chambars (1724-1789) to John Mainwaring's (1735-1807) biography of Handel printed in 1760. Handel is depicted within an oval frame, half-length, facing forwards with his body inclined to the left, wearing a negligé cap. The decorative frame includes instruments (organ, horn, oboe, viol), music and laurel leaves. |
