| Description |
Disbound, sewn. Outer margins and edges stained and chipped. With the composer’s signature at the end of the music; very rare. Storace (1762-1796), one of the finest English composers, had associated with Mozart in Vienna. His sister Nancy, named as one of the singers of this song, had created the part of Susanna in Figaro in 1786; the other singer, Anna Crouch, was the inamorata of Michael Kelly, who had been the Basilio in the Figaro première. The text of the song shows that it must have been published between the execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette’s own guillotining (16 October, 1793). Engraved. |
