Description Red cloth (warped and stained, foot of backstrip torn at front joint). From the library of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (1934-2016) and with the lovely connection of the first title. John Henry Newman (1801-1890) was an important religious writer and priest of the nineteenth century in England. Bellasis was a writer whose works included "Anglican orders: letters from an Anglican since become a Catholic" and "Cardinal Newman as a musician" (1892); he had a brother Richard (of the Oratory in Birmingham).
