| Description |
Disbound. Drop title. Foxed. Engraved. Programmatic piece commemorating events in New York State's "Anti-Rent War," 1839-1846. Some sections designed to imitate other instruments, e.g. "snare drums". "Tin Horn Solo" refers to tin horns said to have been used by anti-rent agitators. The reference to the "ladies of Rensellaerville" in the title may be a reference to the use of disguises (including cross-dressing) by the anti-renters. The Troy Citizens Corps was one of the local volunteer militia units mobilised to restore order. The anonymous composer may have been John C. Andrews, a musician, music dealer, composer and publisher who was a resident of Troy, and a member of the Citizens Corps, as early as 1837. |
