| Description |
Half leather with marbled boards, green leather label, gilt. Copyist's manuscript in brown ink on fourteen-stave paper. With the stencilled stamp of the publisher N. Simrock on the inner margin of several leaves. Unpublished in full score until 1948. From the collection of Christopher Hogwood (1941-2014). The Symphony was written between 1806-7 and revised in 1801. It was published by André in orchestral parts only, which explains the mention of the publisher on the title-page. The manuscript has been executed by a professional scribe, and is very clear and neat. It is possible that this manuscript was prepared for a projected edition by Simrock, which for some reason was abandoned very early on. |
