Blind-stamped calf (a couple of rub marks, and small nick at head of front joint). Some pages shaved close to text with a few missing page numbers; six pages (part 1, pp.9-12, and part 2, pp.47-48) missing but supplied in facsimile on old-style paper. Includes compositions by John Smith, H. Hall, Aldrich, Ives, Crawford, Edmund Nelham, Edward Coleman, John Cobb, Hilton, R. Brown, Lawes, Eccles, J. Jenkins and Michael Wise amongst others. Part 1, reissue of the 1720? edition, with the words "the late Mr. Henry Purcell, Dr. Blow, &c." substituted for (printed over) "the most eminent masters of the age" with the addition of a plate number (297); and with the names of John and Joseph Hare partially erased from the imprint. Part 2, edition of 1732? previously published by Walsh, Randall and Hare (ca 1710) with slightly different contents, under title "The jovial companions, or Merry club". Advertised for sale in the Daily Post of 15 March 1733. |
