Autograph letter, signed, from 11 Mansfield Street London, regarding chamber concerts, wanting to engage Piatti [Carlo Alfredo Piatti (1822-1901)] and Neruda [Wilhelmine Maria Franziska Neruda (1839-1911), the writer's wife], referring to finances ("if we avoid costly singing"), and a performance of Handel's Messiah ("The Messiah would of course be quite a separate thing; I have written to Santley [Charles Santley (1834-1922)] about it but he can give me no answer yet") [probably the performances on 23 and 24 December 1869 in which the tenor was to be Sims Reeves. |
