| Description |
Single sheet, with stab holes for stitching. Some foxing. Steel engraving by J. Thomson after an unidentified artist. Handel is depicted half-length facing to the right but with head towards the viewer, in braided coat with wig. The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, founded in 1826, was a Whiggish London organisation that published inexpensive texts intended to adapt scientific and similarly high-minded material for the rapidly expanding reading public. |
