| Description |
Lacking the lettering at the lower margin ("I. Amiconi Pinxit. I. Wagner sculp. Londini. / Carlo Broschi detto Farinelli."). Previously hinged at upper edge and corners, leaving traces of old paper, and with some wear and slight tears at the upper edge. Three other slight marginal tears, and lower outer corners also slightly missing. Six or so slight surface abrasions to the cherub at lower left, and four or so to the right arm of Fame at the head, otherwise relatively good on thick paper. Allegorical portrait of Farinelli, full-length and seated, being crowned with an olive wreath by a figure representing Music holding a score and with a lyre beside her, above him Fame holding trumpets and with cherubs. In the background pillars, a bust of Julius Caesar, on the floor music books, and Farinelli draped with a garland. |
